PU Rose Festival from Feb 10-12

The 8th Panjab University Rose Festival is going to be held from February 10-12 under the patronage of the university Vice-Chancellor.

The objective is to spread awareness about green and clean environment among the masses and to explore the hidden talent of the students. During the three-day festival, various competitions will be organised for school children, college and university students.

The staff of the Horticulture Department is putting in its best efforts to make the event a success. University Prof RC Paul has given a new look to the festival and the roses are in full blossom. Twenty one new varieties of roses, including Taj Mahal, Love, Paradise, Cricri, etc, are adding to the beauty of the garden. Some varieties have been procured from Pune.

A kite-flying show will take place at Gandhi Bhawan in Panjab University as part of the event.

An art workshop ‘Golshan’ curated by Prof Tirthankar Bhattacharya will be a special attraction during the festival. Eminent artists from the region such as Madan Lal, Sadhna Sangar, Anjali Aggarwal, Sanjay Kumar and Shubash Shorey will be a part of this exhibition.

A three-day exhibition-cum-workshop on ‘Natural Biodiversity’ to sensitise the audience about science, climate, environment, biodiversity, nature, flora and fauna, etc, will also be held.

Stalls displaying and selling various products will be put up during the festival. Tau Baljeet, a famous jalebi-maker from Gohana, will also be putting up a stall this year.

Anil Thakur, Divisional Engineer (H) and organiser of the festival said the festival would be grander than the previous years.
